Unlike with many grounds, Selhurst manages to keep both home and away fans together, without causing an absolute riot. The Flora Sandles (Wetherspoons) and the Railway Telegraph are fairly-priced, cosy pubs by Thornton Heath railway station, while next to Norwood Junction there’s another Spoons – The William Stanley – which accommodates all fans on a match day. They’re all pretty close to the venue (walking) and offer good atmosphere!
While there is a pub within 5 minutes from Selhurst called “The Clifton Arms” it is not recommended for tourists or away supporters as it is a local pub that are not very welcoming and just don’t like outsiders. Instead there are plenty of options 10-15 minutes up the road near Thornton Heath Railway Station there is the “Flora Sandes” which is a favorite pub for away supporters but is generally quite mixed with home fans as well as it is such a nice atmosphere (and the prices are really reasonable!). It has outdoor seating and a lot of space for groups while selling real ales and it is names after the only WW1 female soldier in Britain.
In the same vicinity is “The Railway Telegraph” which is around 15 minute walk from the stadium that serves many of the locals on match day and is quite spacious with TV’s for watching live matches. It is definitely a favorite for a pre or post-match pint before heading off to the game but also serves food and snacks.
Crystal Palace supporters frequent a few pubs before a game, however – be aware that a lot of these pubs will only allow entry if you have a match day ticket on your person at the time! The ‘Clifton’ is right next to the stadium and as such gets popular quickly with the Crystal Palace faithful, there have been times where it gets so full that only season-ticket holders have been allowed in. Other popular pubs include nearby ‘The Portmanor’ and ‘The Duke of Cambridge’ which are always assured of a boisterous atmosphere on game days. The most popular pub for away fans is the ‘Flora Sandes’ a Wetherspoons style pub directly across from Thornton Heath Train Station – this also can get quite busy, luckily, ‘The Railway Telegraph’ is also welcoming to away fans and is just a short walk away.
