Unlike some other grounds around the country, the area around the BayArena is well populated with lots of great bars and clubs for you to socialise in and enjoy a few beers before the game!
Located on the same street as the stadium are both Haus Am Park, which has a great terrace to enjoy the sunshine – drinks do come at a premium here though! Otherwise there is a trendy Cuban style bar – Havana – that serves up great cocktails and used to be a favourite haunt of the players!
Across the road from the stadium is the football themed – Pille – As well as having an indoor football pitch, the sports bar has plenty of TV screens to watch the build-up and has a good sized beer garden as well!
The arena is located in a residential area, nevertheless, if you walk down Bismarckstraße you will encounter some pubs and kiosk that are always busy on match days. I can highly recommend “Stadioneck Leverkusen” if you want to meet any local fans, the atmosphere is just like you would imagine a decent football pub. Other options which are even closer to the stadium are “Pille Sportbar & Biergarten”, a nice beer garden where you can sit outside, as well as “Schadbud” right next to the stadium.
Drinking around the BayArena used to be a nightmare, but of late there has been a huge improvement: the Schwadbud. This is a fan pub par excellence, with everything that you could want. It’s packed with fans for every home game, perfect for taking in the atmosphere, the beer flows freely and the whole place is decked out in memorabilia, donated by fans themselves. It’s somewhere between a pub and a museum and definitely not one to be missed if you’re going to a game.
