RheinEnergie Stadion seating?

As much as English fans love to travel to Germany to experience the atmosphere, Germans love to go to England and nick the stadium designs. The RheinEnergie Stadion is a direct lift from the classic English model, with Anfield and Villa Park often cited as inspirations. That means steep stands, fans very close to the pitch and a roof that keeps all the noise it.

This being the Bundesliga, there is also a standing section, which at FC Köln is behind the southern goal. A ticket in there will set you back €16, while seating goes from €37 up to €75. Everywhere has a good view, but it goes without saying that the standing terrace is where the best atmosphere is to be found.

The stadium fits a total of 49,000 people. Visibility is great from any given seat due to the steepness of the stadium and the fact that fans sit very close to the pitch. Ticket prices are a bit more expensive than the average price, they are in between 65€ (category 1, main stands) and 33€ (upper echelons). However, it is only 16€ for the stances, but they sell out pretty quickly. If planning on seeing a game, make sure you book the tickets some days in advance as tickets often sell out right before a match.

In the run up to the 2006 world cup over 115 million Euro was poured into the stadium to make it a fantastic experience. The running track was removed which has created a more intimate experience and personal feel to the place. Not bad when you consider that it’s capacity is 50,000. Unlike a lot of modern stadium’s it has 4 separate stands.

If you want an unforgettable experience make sure you get either a seat or a standing ticket in the South Stand – here you will be surrounded by chanting fans, waving flags and twirling banners – it’s a great sight!
