Bochum is a small town, but there are still things to keep you entertained! The Planetarium is one of the town’s main attractions and if you are into space and all its wonders, it’s a great place to spend an afternoon.
If the weather is nice as well, there are plenty of great parks such as Botanischer Garten which offer a peaceful retreat from the rest of the city – a great place for a picnic.
The Moritz Fiege Brewery tour is also a great way to spend a couple of hours – you can see how the beer is made and the history behind the brand before pouring yourself a couple of pints and enjoying some of the freshest beer you’ll taste!

Only about 700m from the stadium you will find a huge park area called “Stadtpark”. The area itself is already worth a visit. However, there is the so-called “Bismarckturm” which can be visited and gives a great view over the entire city and the whole “Ruhrgebiet” (Ruhr). Look up the opening times though, it only opens occasionally. In the park there is a small zoo as well with funny birds, reptiles and fossils.

Bochum is an industrial town without any obvious tourist industry, but they have managed to turn that in their favour. The German Mining Museum is a fascinating insight into the life of the Ruhr Valley and is of global importance in the field of industrial history. On the other end of the scale, the stadium itself is just along from in a huge park that is perfect for walks, picnics and – if the weather allows it – pre and post-match drinking.
