Bochum is home to several good restaurants and there is a variety of different cuisines on offer. Beef and Burger is a quality restaurant that does exactly what it says on the tin – with big burgers, cooked really well; pair it with some great local beer – try their IPA!
Bratwusthaus is a local legend among the people of Bochum – the locals stand by their claim that it has some of the best sausages in Germany. The CurryWurst, served with fries and mayo is a very popular dish that you have to try!
A smaller German town isn’t the first place you would expect to find some quality Vietnamese food – but here is it! Nhy Star serves a wide array of Vietnamese and Asian food, from great beef and mango salads to some indulgent creamy curries!

Amid the obvious takeaway favourites, Bochum has one aspect that it does particularly well. You won’t have to go far to find somewhere serving currywurst, the strange mix of battered sausage, ketchup and curry powder so beloved of Germans, but the best of the bunch is to be found at Dönninghaus on Brückstraße in the centre of town. They butcher it themselves, plus create their own sauce. If you ever have the pleasure of meeting someone from Bochum, they’ll likely claim the currywurst as their own and say that Dönninghaus is the real deal.

There is a great Italian place right next to the stadium (about 300m) called “Momo mio Momo”, some say it’s the best pizza in town. Regarding international food there is “Sutherland” (100m from the stadium) which I can still recommend. If you feel more like German / Austrian food I suggest having dinner at “Franz Ferdinand” which is a bit more pricey, but definitely worth it. It is located in the park area, about 600m from the stadium.
