Both Havana Bochum and Badalona Bar are places worth checking out before and after the game – there is a great ambience to the place and while it might not be the spit and sawdust type of pub that is typical before the football, they do serve some great drinks!
For more of your typical pub – both Three Sixty and Paddy’s Irish Bar really fit the bill. With lots of beers on tap and a load of pub games to keep you entertained, it’s a great place to warm up for the match.

The best place to go to before a home game of VFL Bochum is the so-called “Ritterburg”. A great pub for every football fan, doesn’t matter if you are from another city – or country. The staff is super friendly and you will always meet other fans to have a chat about football. They also show all the other Bundesliga matches on TV. After the game you can either stay here or directly head towards the pub district of Bochum, called “Bermudadreieck”. You will discover more than 30 bars and pubs within a very small radius. To get there, either ask around or try to get to the station called “Engelbert-Brunnen / Brüderstraße”.

Bochum is home to what locals call the “Bermuda Triangle”, a huge range of bars and restaurants right in the centre of the city. Folk from all over the Ruhr come here to drink and after a match, this is where you will end up. There are plenty of different bars, but if you get a taste for Fiege at the Ruhrstadion, then head to their pub on Bongardstraße.
The stadium is a little light on pubs – most fans buy beer from kiosks and drink it on the walk – but those taking the tram can stop off at Ritterburg, right next to the station, for a pre-match pint.
