One of Berlin’s most popular tourist attractions is the Olympiastadion itself! The stadium has tours that can be tailored to your interests. If you are interested in the stadium itself, as a famous Olympic institution you can have a tour that focuses on that. Hertha fans also get their own specific tour, going behind the scenes and seeing the stadium though a players eyes! All this for just €12.
Otherwise, you are in Berlin, one of the countries most visited places. See the Brandenburg Gate, go to the Reichstag Building, pay your respects at the Holocaust Memorial and check out checkpoint Charlie!
Since we are so far outside from the city center there are not that many spectacular sites near the stadium. A great thing to do is to climb the “Drachenberg” (dragon mountain) south from the stadium and enjoy the great views. From there it is not far to the “Teufelsberg” (devil’s mountain) which is an old radar station also offering stunning views. Very unique place, people say it’s a must-see for street-art fans as there are numerous graffiti paintings.
The Olympiastadion is a haven for history buffs. Built for the 1936 Olympics, Hitler’s horrible legacy is everywhere, from the machine-gun damaged Olympic bell to the Maifeld, a Nazi parading ground. The whole area is largest remaining example of Nazi monumental architecture and a must-see. Join the €12 daily tour to discover all the history before you take in a game. Alternatively, just walk around and take all the architecture in for yourself.
